The New England Patriots are an offensive machine. Quarterback Tom Brady and Co. lead the NFL in both total yards and scoring. It’s a group that has scored 40 points or more four times already this season.
However, there is one stat the Patriots’ coaching staff doesn't like: New England also leads the AFC East in drops.
Here is the drop count for the division, according to ESPN Stats and Information:
- No. 1: Patriots, 24
- No. 2: New York Jets, 22
- No. 3: Miami Dolphins. 16
- No. 4: Buffalo Bills, 14
It turns out the Patriots have the top three pass droppers in the division. Pro Bowl receiver Wes Welker (seven), Pro Bowl tight end Rob Gronkowski (five) and veteran receiver Brandon Lloyd (five) are the three biggest culprits. Receiver Donald Jones (four) of the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets rookie receiver Stephen Hill (four) round out the top five in the AFC East.
