The Buffalo Bills and new head coach Doug Marrone are wasting no time identifying candidates to fill their coaching staff. ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini confirms the Bills have requested to interview Jets defensive coordinator Mike Pettine for the same position.

This is an interesting development for several reasons. First, Pettine coaches for a division rival. Second, Pettine is a free agent who completed the final year of his contract with the Jets.

The New York Daily News reported last month that Pettine turned down a contract extension with the Jets. This could be a sign that Pettine wants out. New York is a circus-like atmosphere with a ton of pressure in 2013. The Jets are in the process of hiring a new general manager, who will make significant personnel changes, and head coach Rex Ryan will enter next season on the hot seat.

Buffalo is starting a new era and that could be attractive to Pettine. The Bills are certainly interested and made him the first coordinator on their wish list.
