The New York Jets are the second AFC East team to select in the first round of the NFL draft. The Jets have the No. 9 overall pick.
What can the Jets get for their value? Let's take a look at the recent history of the No. 9 pick and what this means for New York.
- 2012: Luke Kuechly, LB, Carolina Panthers
- 2011: Tyron Smith, OT, Dallas Cowboys
- 2010: C.J. Spiller, RB, Buffalo Bills
- 2009: B.J. Raji, DT, Green Bay Packers
- 2008: Keith Rivers, LB, Cincinnati Bengals
The No. 9 overall pick has been great for teams. As recently as this past season, Kuechly won the rookie of year award for Carolina. Smith is a full-time starter, Spiller is a budding star in Buffalo and Raji helped propel the Packers to a Super Bowl title two seasons ago.
This could bode well for the Jets and new general manager John Idzik. New York is in proven position to get a game-changer if its scouting staff does its job. Needs for the Jets include safety, running back, receiver, linebacker and quarterback.
