The New York Jets signed rookie second-round pick Geno Smith to a four-year contract this week, just several days before the team opens training camp on Friday. Now, it’s time for the quarterback competition to officially begin.
Both Smith and incumbent starting quarterback Mark Sanchez are very confident heading into training camp. Sanchez said all spring and summer that he expects to win the job, and Smith recently told a West Virginia newspaper that he has a “great chance,” as well.
But only one can be correct -- and that’s where you come in. In our latest AFC East poll, we ask our community to vote on who will win New York’s high-profile quarterback job.
Will be Sanchez for the fifth consecutive year? He’s had tons of ups and downs in New York. Sanchez helped lead the Jets to back-to-back AFC title-game appearances in 2009 and 2010. But he also struggled the past two seasons. Sanchez has one last shot to prove he’s a franchise quarterback for New York in 2013.
Or will it be Smith? April’s second-round pick put up prolific numbers at the University of West Virginia. Many Jets fans hope Smith can be the guy to infuse a new energy at the position. Can he do enough to win the job in Week 1?
Using our SportsNation poll, vote on which quarterback will win the Jets’ starting quarterback job. You can also share your thoughts in the comment section below.
