Ends justify means for Patriots

In a reflection of how the Patriots viewed Colts defensive ends Dwight Freeney, Robert Mathis and Jerry Hughes as a key to their game-plan, the coaching staff picked three defensive ends when selecting practice player of the week awards.

Five-year veteran Trevor Scott and rookies Jake Bequette and Justin Francis earned the honor, along with special teamer Matthew Slater.

The practice players of the week are those deemed to have best prepared the team in the days leading up to a victory.
