Prior to signing a pair of offensive linemen on Monday to bring their roster total to 89 players, the Patriots worked out veteran linebacker Brandon Johnson, according to a league source.

Johnson, 30, spent the 2012 season with the Steelers, recording 10 tackles in 14 games played.

He spent the three years before that with another AFC North team, as he started 16 of 64 games played with the Bengals from 2008 to 2011.

Originally a fifth-round pick of the Cardinals out of Louisville in 2006, Johnson has played extensively as an inside linebacker throughout his career. He has career totals of 224 tackles, 3.5 sacks and three interceptions in seven pro seasons.
Field Yates has previous experience interning with the New England Patriots on both their coaching and scouting staffs. A graduate of Wesleyan University (CT), he is a regular contributor to ESPN Boston's Patriots coverage and ESPN Insider.
