Taking a closer look at the contract signed by rookie receiver Aaron Dobson:

Length: 4 years
Signing bonus: $873,360
Total guarantee: $1.173 million

Base salaries:
2013 -- $405,000
2014 -- $560,835 ($300,000 guaranteed)
2015 -- $716,670
2016 -- $872,505

Salary cap charges:
2013 -- $623,340
2014 -- $779,175
2015 -- $935,010
2016 -- $1.09 million

QUICK-HIT THOUGHTS: If Dobson emerges as a front-line contributor for the Patriots, which is naturally what the team hopes for after selecting him 59th overall, he would represent one of the better values on the team over the next four years. Any salary cap charge less than $1 million for a front-line player is ideal. Dobson has a great opportunity ahead of him and his progress figures to be one of the closer-watched storylines when training camp begins (first practice open to the public is Friday, July 26).
