Bears sign safety Nelson

The Chicago Bears signed safety Tom Nelson to a one-year deal on Tuesday, the team announced.

Nelson has played three seasons in the NFL, but he suffered a high ankle sprain in the final preseason game with the Philadelphia Eagles and sat out this season. He reached an injury settlement.

Nelson is from Arlington Heights, Ill., and attended Illinois State.
