OXNARD, Calif. -- The Cowboys have the expectation L.P. Ladouceur will be the deep snapper in 2012, but it didn't stop them from bringing in Charley Hughlett to compete for the job.

Ladouceur is in the final year of his contract, and there's a thought maybe the team will go with a younger version.

Hughlett, 6-foot-4 and 251 pounds, has gotten snaps with both kickers, Dan Bailey and Delbert Alvarado. A large majority of his snaps have been good, as they've been for Ladouceur.

At Central Florida, Hughlett was a second-team All-Conference USA selection as he handled long-snapping duties on all the special teams. Hughlett has played center since high school and maybe he can back up the regular center spot for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys always look to the future when it comes to positions, and if Hughlett does a good job this preseason, maybe a change could occur.

But Ladouceur is considered one of the best at his gig in the NFL.
