During the team meeting Saturday night, coach Jason Garrett talked about Brown and Brent to the players.
“He too is a teammate, somebody who is so well respected in our locker room, someone we love very much,” Garrett said. “Very challenging situation that he’s in right now. Josh and Jerry were really close. They were close in college at Illinois. And there was no one more excited in our organization when we signed Jerry Brown. Josh was jumping up and down, ‘That’s my boy. That’s my boy. You got to bring my boy here. My boy can play.’ He told everybody that.
"They lived together down here. He opened his doors to his good buddy. They were best friends. They spent an immense amount of time together. They were close. They were teammates in college. They were roommates in college. They were teammates here. They were roommates here. And obviously he’s going through as difficult a time as anybody and we just talked about it last night. We just have to be there for him.
"Everywhere he turns he has to feel support, from every player, coach every resource we have with the Dallas Cowboys he has to know we’re there for him to try to help him get through this. It’s a difficult time. You have to take it day by day. He’ll never forget this. None of us will but we have to help him through it.”
Added owner Jerry Jones: "It’s just a tragedy that has happened here with Josh as well, and we want to and are going to be supportive of him."
Brent was on the players’ minds after the Cowboys’ 20-19 win.
“You can only imagine how he’s feeling right now,” outside linebacker Anthony Spencer said. “It could have been any of us. It really could have. We’ve all been in that situation where we’ve gone out and had a few drinks and then drove home, whatever the situation was. It really could have been any of us in this locker room that it happened to. It’s hard not to feel for him.”
