Cowboys get no compensatory picks
Under the rules for compensatory draft selections, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks as deemed by the league.
Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The formula was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula.
Last year, the Cowboys signed eight free agents, with one player (Brodney Pool) not making the 53-man roster. The Cowboys, however, lost eight free agents; this doesn't include players who were released by the team, such as Terence Newman.
In the history of the compensatory draft picks, which first started in 1994, the Cowboys have been awarded 30 picks, tied for the third-most in the league with Philadelphia and Tennessee/Houston.
