Whatever it is that Jerry Jones means with all this window talk, DeMarcus Ware got the owner’s message loud and clear.

“I’m about to turn 30, and it’s time,” the perennial Pro Bowl outside linebacker said on ESPN’s SportsCenter. “It’s time to get the job done and time to solidify what it means to be a team. That’s getting to the playoffs and getting to the Super Bowl.

“I don’t care what anybody else says. I think that each year it’s that time. You can’t wait until next year. You can’t think about what’s happened in the past. The time is now. I feel the same way each year.”

While Ware feels the same way each year, the Cowboys haven’t come close to a Super Bowl during his seven-year career, winning only one playoff game in that span.

The Cowboys’ challenge is to go from mediocre to elite in the span of one season. The fact that the 9-7 Giants won the Super Bowl indicates that it isn’t necessarily a quantum leap if a team can finish strong, which is the exact opposite of what the Cowboys did by losing four of their last five games last season.

“This year is the time, and what are you going to do about it?” Ware said. “You can correct everything you did from last year. Now we have a whole ‘nother opportunity and the time is now.

“I’m not thinking about next year, what we’re going to build next year or what happened the year before that. It’s like, OK, the time is now to get the job done to solidify your team to get where you need to be.”

Ware points out that the Cowboys didn’t have an offseason due to the lockout last year (although the same is true for 31 other NFL teams). Ware likes what he has seen at Valley Ranch so far this spring.

“Our team is practicing hard,” Ware said. “It’s a totally different team and everybody is going to see that.”
