Showcase Standouts: Top '95 players

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. -- The coaches (Chris Brewer, Brian Maissoneuve) have had their say, and ESPNHS offers this list of top 10 performers from the Development Academy 1995 Age Group All-Star game held at the Lakewood Ranch Premier Sports Campus.

The Match

Academy Select Red overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit to tie Academy Select Blue 1-1 in the 1995 (under-17/18) division on Saturday night at the 2011 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase at the Lakewood Ranch Premier Sports Campus.

Paul Arriola (Arsenal FC) scored on a free kick in the 11th minute for Academy Select Blue, which held a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal.

Academy Select Red forward Benji Lopez (Real Salt Lake-AZ) evened the score at 1 with a header in the 61st minute on an assist from defender Jalen Markey (Seattle Sounders).

Goalkeepers Zachary Steffen (FC Delco) and Jake McGuire (Chivas USA) had two saves apiece to lead the way for Academy Select Red.

Forwards

Paul Arriola, Arsenal FC (Class of 2013)

Benji Lopez, Real Salt Lake-AZ (Class of 2013)

Dangerous around the box, can shoot accurately from distance ... great offensive player when isolated, knows how to break down a defender one-on-one ... aggressive on the ball and knows how to use his head

William Raygoza, LA Galaxy

Coaches say:
Has a knack for finding the ball in traffic and great motor ... good spacing and helps team gain more territory when playing the attack

Defenders

Michael Amick, De Anza Force (Class of 2013)

Positioning is a strength and maintains excellent field awareness ... comfortable on the ball and knows how to read the game from both all positions on defense

Jalen Markey, Seattle Sounders FC (Class of 2013)

Athletic, savvy defender ... has a good motor and underrated passer ... smart player in the backfield and rarely makes mistakes with the ball

Miguel Polley, Chicago Fire
