There's little surprise here - Chester is the top team at the conclusion of our POWERADE Pennsylvania Weekly Rankings. The Clippers ran the table to finish 32-0 and cap the year as the nation's No. 4 team in the POWERADE FAB 50. Season-long No. 2, Neumann-Goretti, also claimed a state championship with a narrow win over Montour. Other state champs included Imhotep Charter, in an upset win over Beaver Falls, and Constitution, which ran the table in Class A after playing a very difficult non-league schedule. Congratulations to all of this year's state champions.

1. Chester (32-0) Last week: No. 1

2. Neumann-Goretti (29-3) Last week: No. 2

3. Imhotep Charter (22-8) Last week: No. 10

By this weekend, we'll know who the state champions are, and we'll know which teams end the season atop the POWERADE Pennsylvania Weekly Rankings. Chester and Neumann-Goretti, which have sat at the top of our rankings every week since the beginning of the season, are just two wins away from state championships in Class AAAA and Class AAA, respectively. But that doesn't mean a title is a sure thing. Look out for tough teams such as Lower Merion, Central Dauphin and Montour, possibly the hottest team in the state right now, as the final week shapes up to be an exciting one.

1. Chester (30-0) Last week: No. 1

2. Neumann-Goretti (26-3) Last week: No. 2

3. Lower Merion (27-3) Last week: No. 3

The state tournament has begun, and already there's a bit of separation evident between the state's top teams and those who weren't quite on that level. No teams have fallen out of or slipped in the POWERADE Pennsylvania Weekly Rankings, but with the tournaments heating up this week, that will surely change with some big matchups on the horizon. As always, check back often for updates as the tournament progresses.

1. Chester (28-0) Last week: No. 1

2. Neumann-Goretti (25-3) Last week: No. 2

3. New Castle (27-0) Last week: No. 3

It's make-or-break season for the state's top teams, and the squads at the top of the POWERADE Pennsylvania Weekly Rankings appear to be peaking at the right time. But still, that's why they play the games. While some squads are on the outside looking in at this time of year, others are looking for their shot at a state title - and just five wins can get it done. Can Chester keep the winning streak alive? Is Neumann-Goretti deep enough to win the Class AAA crown again? Is anyone up to the task of toppling Beaver Falls in Class AA? Only time will tell.

1. Chester (27-0) Last week: No. 1

2. Neumann-Goretti (23-3) Last week: No. 2

3. New Castle (27-0) Last week: No. 3

The postseason is rapidly approaching and in some cases has already left a big impression, knocking teams from the district tournaments and denying them a shot at state tournament glory. That's the fate that has befallen former No. 3 Central Dauphin, while Chartiers Valley is also out in the WPIAL tourney despite being a top seed, and Malvern Prep couldn't slip past its foes in the Independent Schools Tourney. The field is narrowing, but some of the top teams are still around as well as some underdogs hoping to strike at just the right time.

1. Chester (25-0) Last week: No. 1

2. Neumann-Goretti (22-3) Last week: No. 2

3. New Castle (24-0) Last week: No. 4

Here's how tough it is to stay in the POWERADE Pennsylvania Weekly Rankings - a very good Hershey team dropped to 20-2 on the season...and fell from the top 10. That vacancy opened up a spot for a very deserving Beaver Falls team, which was probably past due. What does Beaver Falls get for its newfound spot in the top 10? A very difficult road through the WPIAL tourney including dates with Brentwood and potentially Jeannette and Sto-Rox down the line. We'll find out soon if the Tigers are up to the task.

1. Chester (23-0) Last week: No. 1

2. Neumann-Goretti (21-3) Last week: No. 2

3. Central Dauphin (23-1) Last week: No. 3

Playoff games are right around the corner, and the 10 teams currently in our POWERADE Pennsylvania Weekly Rankings are ready for the postseason. No team is more ready than Chester, which has not only won its games but is doing so in convincing fashion. The Clippers have now won 48 consecutive games and are rolling on all cylinders heading into its Class AAAA title defense. The Clippers are also No. 4 in the POWERADE FAB 50. Neumann-Goretti and Central Dauphin are right on their heels, though, and there's a new team entering the fray this week - Salisbury Township, which has stayed consistently on the bubble waiting for its shot to crack the top 10.

1. Chester (22-0) Last week: No. 1

2. Neumann-Goretti (20-3) Last week: No. 2

3. Central Dauphin (21-1) Last week: No. 3

With just a limited number of games remaining until the playoffs begin in earnest, there are lots of intriguing storylines. Chester remains one of the nation's top teams (No. 3 in the East and No. 4 in the POWERADE FAB 50) while Neumann-Goretti returns to the East Region rankings after a one-week hiatus. New Castle and Hershey are still without losses, as is General McLane. And none of the teams in the POWERADE Pennsylvania Weekly Rankings suffered a loss this week, making our job of rankings pretty easy (but decidedly less fun). Time is running out to make a move, though, and then we'll get to quit with the hypotheticals and let these teams settle the score on the hardwood.

1. Chester (19-0) Last week: No. 1

2. Neumann-Goretti (16-3) Last week: No. 2

3. Central Dauphin (19-1) Last week: No. 3

Pennsylvania can now boast only one of the top teams in the POWERADE FAB 50. Chester holds down the nation's No. 5 spot with a 17-0 record. Neumann-Goretti dropped out of the FAB 50, from No. 27, after losing on Sunday to South Shore (Brooklyn, N.Y.). The rest of the teams are jockeying for position in hopes of being in the best spot possible as the playoffs approach (and the playoffs, in case you haven't notice, are rapidly approaching). Even the bubble teams have more talent than many other states can put in their top fives, which is a testament to how good the game has gotten in the Keystone State. Unbeaten General McLane joins the mix this week, which only adds to the great talent in the top 10.

1. Chester (17-0) Last week: No. 1

2. Neumann-Goretti (14-3) Last week: No. 2

3. Central Dauphin (17-1) Last week: No. 3

Last week we detailed Friends' Central's rough week - a week that saw the team slip from the top three down to the No. 6 spot. But Amile Jefferson and company weren't about to let a bad week derail their season, and this week the Phoenix won two games in convincing fashion to move back up into the top five. A few teams suffered first losses or tough losses but paired them with strong victories, and Lower Merion made a big push thanks to a convincing win over Scranton to move up into sixth. One thing we're learning in PA is that any team can beat anyone at any given time, which should make the postseason very interesting.

1. Chester (15-0) Last week: No. 1

2. Neumann-Goretti (12-2) Last week: No. 2

3. Central Dauphin (14-1) Last week: No. 3

It was an especially tough week for Friends' Central, a team that started the week as the nation's No. 13 team in the very competitive POWERADE East Region Rankings. Senior Amile Jefferson and company dropped a two-point decision to Westtown School, then fell to Math, Civics and Sciences by three points. It wasn't the way the team wanted to go into its nationally televised game on Sunday against St. Mark's (Southborough, Mass.) in the Hoophall Classic in Springfield, Mass. The team played well but was a bit overmatched, and St. Mark's pulled away late. Friends' Central is a supremely talented team and will stay in the top 10 for now. But Jefferson has to get his team back on track.

1. Chester (13-0) Last week: No. 1

2. Neumann-Goretti (10-2) Last week: No. 2

3. Central Dauphin (12-1) Last week: No. 4

So long as Chester stays unbeaten, the Clippers will stay on top of our POWERADE Pennsylvania Weekly Rankings. But that won't be an easy task. And it'll be interesting to see how some of the other teams in the rankings respond in the coming weeks. Neumann-Goretti, which held tough against the nation's No. 5 team in the POWERADE FAB 50 last week, is ready to dive in to its local slate of games. Friends' Central has a very difficult schedule upcoming but is playing well at the right time. And several unbeaten teams remain, meaning it's going to get awfully crowded at the top moving forward.

1. Chester (10-0) Last week: No. 1

2. Neumann-Goretti (8-2) Last week: No. 2

3. Friends' Central (9-1) Last week: No. 3

Now that the 2011 slate of games is in the books, teams can turn their attention to the important contests looming in the early part of 2012. January can be a big month for teams looking for make a mark. And teams that got off to slow starts, whether it be due to injuries, tough out-of-state competition or just lackluster performance, will be ready to turn it around. There wasn't much change this week in Pennsylvania, with Chester still holding down the top spot in our rankings and just one team - Imhotep Charter - dropping out. We'll see if that continues.

1. Chester (9-0) Last week: 1

2. Neumann-Goretti (7-1) Last week: 2

3. Friends' Central (6-1) Last week: 3

For some of our ranked teams, it's been a rocky start, especially near the bottom of last week's list. New teams take over in spots 5, 7, 9 and 10 while replacing talented but underachieving teams, or teams that bit off a bit more than they could chew in a challenging out-of-state schedule. Those teams might make a return to our rankings, but for now they'll sit on the sidelines while deserving schools clean up in their early state of games.

1. Chester (5-0) Last week: 1

2. Neumann-Goretti (4-1) Last week: 3

3. Friends' Central (5-1) Last week: 2

It's very early in the Pennsylvania basketball season, but teams are taking care of business early on. Chester is rolling early while Neumann-Goretti lost an out-of state battle at Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.). Friends' Central, meanwhile, has been dominant, most notably in its last game. The team allowed just 17 points against Germantown Academy. North Allegheny jumps into the rankings this week as well after a 3-0 start.

1. Chester (3-0)

2. Friends' Central (4-0)

3. Neumann-Goretti (2-1)
