Bronxville (Bronxville, N.Y.) junior Mary Cain added to her amazing list of outstanding performances this year (and in her career) with a nation-leading 4:16.52 for 1,500 meters at the New York Section I State Qualifier Championships in White Plains.

While Cain’s performance Friday was a PR by “just” half a second, it moved her four spots higher on the all-time 1,500 list (congested with 4:16 and 4:17 performers). Now only California’s USR-holder Jordan Hasay (4:14.50) and Christine Babcock (4:16.42) have ever run faster than Cain, and the New Yorker now owns the soph class national record (formerly Hasay’s 4:16.98) in addition to the frosh USR she set in 2011.

Cain's time also put her below the Olympic Trials "B" Qualifying Standard of 4:17.00.

Cain had previously run 4:17.1 (hand-held) this spring, in addition to 2:03.34 for 800 and 4:39.28 for the mile (Penn Relays). She has not lost outdoors in 2012.
