EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Linebacker Keith Rivers was involved in an automobile accident last week in California during the New York Giants' bye week.
Tom Coughlin said the Giants are hopeful that Rivers has nothing more than a bruised knee.
"He had a car accident last week," Coughlin said. "He is being evaluated. He bruised a knee. We hope that is all it is."
Rivers did not participate in the Giants' light practice on Monday and was being evaluated by doctors. Linebacker Jacquian Williams (knee) and wide receiver Domenik Hixon (ankle) also did not practice.
Safety Kenny Phillips (knee) and Ahmad Bradshaw (neck/foot) did participate in the light practice. Coughlin said Bradshaw "appeared to be fine today" after undergoing a battery of tests last week, including having his neck examined. Bradshaw, who suffered an injury to his neck in the second game of the season and missed the Carolina game the following week, said the results from the tests came back clean.
"I had like the same symptoms I had second game," Bradshaw said. "It was nothing serious. Just didn't want to risk anything."
Coughlin said the team will see how Phillips' knee responds on Tuesday. The hope is that Williams and Phillips will be able to do some work in practice Wednesday.
"It feels a whole lot better," said Phillips, who has missed the last six games with an MCL injury. "Definitely feels like it was the right decision [to rest through the bye week]. The trainers and myself felt like some of the things we were doing really wasn't working out, so we kind of switched the game plan and tried some new things. Thus far it feels pretty good. Hopefully when I get out there Wednesday I'll be able to practice and play this week."
Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks said the rest during the bye was beneficial and he says his knee and foot feel as good as they have all season. Right guard Chris Snee also said his banged-up body needed the bye week to recuperate. Both Nicks and Snee participated in practice.
"I'm pretty close," Nicks said of being 100 percent. "This is as close as I'm gonna be. If this is it, this is 100 percent."
