EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. –- Jason Pierre-Paul thinks it will be "easier" facing Drew Brees this week than trying to figure out what Robert Griffin III was going to do with the ball at any given moment.
After trying to deal with the headache that is Washington's option offense in a 17-16 loss on Monday night, Pierre-Paul is looking forward to facing a more traditional offense and quarterback -- even if it means contending with the prolific Brees.
"Just playing that option, man, is crazy," Pierre-Paul said. "I think we're one of the best teams that have played it, played it well, but it's a pain in the ass. I hate playing it.
"So now going up to like a traditional offense, we know what we're going to probably get, and it's much easier."
Of course, Brees is no picnic. He is second all-time in accuracy among NFL quarterbacks and currently owns the all-time single-season yardage record.
And there was nothing easy about facing Brees last season, when he torched the Giants' defense for four touchdowns in a 49-24 Saints win in New Orleans.
"We already know what he's capable of and his targets and stuff," Pierre-Paul said. "So we'll go out there and play some great football. And we ain't gotta worry about the option."
The Giants do have to worry about Brees trying to bounce back against them. He is coming off a five-interception performance against Atlanta in which he failed to throw a touchdown pass after having at least one in 54 consecutive regular-season games.
"I would say that was disappointing for me, very uncharacteristic of me and not what I'm used to," Brees said of his interceptions. "Everything that happened is correctable and I can fix and I've been doing everything in my power to get that done."
"I also know this: I'm not losing any confidence," Brees added.
Brees hasn't played since that Thursday night's 23-13 loss to the Falcons. The Saints (5-7) are without head coach Sean Payton, but they can still pose problems for a Giants defense that had its difficulties while the team lost three of its past four games.
However, the Giants can draw confidence from their Nov. 25 victory over the Packers -- when they smothered Aaron Rodgers and held Green Bay to 10 points -- as they prepare for Brees.
"I would tell you that he is definitely one of the best quarterbacks in this league, hands down," safety Antrel Rolle said of Brees. "He has proven it. He has shown it. But he has got to go out and show us come Sunday."
