David Diehl says the Giants haven't done anything with his contract "yet."
But the veteran offensive lineman said he is "willing to do some things to restructure" if it helps keep other players like restricted free agent Victor Cruz around for several years.
“Nothing as of yet," Diehl said when asked if the Giants are working on altering his contract on NFL Network. "I have been there (at the facility) the last seven weeks after having my knee scoped and some surgery. I have been going there, in and out each and every day. We will see what happens, with what happens (and) plays out here with Victor Cruz.”
Cruz, a restricted free agent, and the Giants would like to work out a long-term extension. The Giants also would like to extend Hakeem Nicks, who is entering the final year of his contract, and re-sign free agent left guard Kevin Boothe.
Team co-owner Steve Tisch intimated to reporters earlier this week that the Giants were trying to work with Diehl to alter his contract -- perhaps a pay cut similar to what Corey Webster got -- and potentially free up more cap space. Diehl is entering the final year of his deal with a base salary of $4.475 million.
The Giants are limited by their cap space at the moment but Eli Manning, Chris Snee and Diehl all have said this week that they would be open to considering altering their contracts to help sign Cruz and Boothe to long-term deals.
"Eli would be willing to do things, I would be willing to do some things to restructure and help other guys out and keep a great teammate (around) like Victor Cruz," Diehl said. "I have restructured before in my 10 seasons as a New York Giant. It is not something I am unfamiliar with. That is part of the business in the NFL.”
If the Giants are unable to re-sign Boothe, they will need Diehl's versatility even more. Diehl can play both guard and tackle positions.
"David can play anywhere," said Snee, who passed out food at a Boost Mobile 'Shrink Hunger' event with City Harvest and Korilla BBQ in Harlem. "If you’re asking me if David Diehl can play guard, he can play anywhere."
