Todd McShay put out another mock draft late last week and this one includes two rounds.
So let's take a look at his picks for the New York Giants:
19. D.J. Fluker
McShay's analysis: My good friend Mel Kiper rightly points out that the Giants don't usually spend high picks on offensive linemen, so this is not a slam dunk. Fluker isn't athletic enough to play on the left side, but he has developed enough balance and footwork to hold up on the right. He carries his weight well, plays hard and doesn't show some of the scary traits massive right tackle prospects often bring to the table. And if the Giants are willing to take the likes of Chris Snee at No. 34 overall or Will Beatty at No. 60, why not a player like Fluker here? After all, over the past decade-plus no position has hit at a higher rate in the first round than offensive tackle.
49. Jamar Taylor
COLLEGE: Boise State
Our analysis: I like where McShay's head is at in this mock draft. I agree with him that the Giants need an offensive lineman, but really one for the future. Their O-line for this season likely is set with Beatty at left tackle, Kevin Boothe at left guard, David Baas at center, Snee at right guard and either David Diehl or James Brewer at right tackle. But the Giants need to get younger and deeper at offensive line.
Jerry Reese is likely going to go with whomever is at the top of his board at 19. But defensive line, offensive line, secondary and linebacker should be at the top of his positional needs. Outside of a talented player unexpectedly falling to 19 that the Giants simply cannot pass on, Reese probably will be happy coming away with a pass rusher or offensive lineman in the first round. Co-owner John Mara recently said that he believed the front line on both sides of the ball did not play up to expectations last season and he would like to see improved play from those two areas.
So, what do you think of McShay's first two picks for the Giants?
