With Bilal Powell (concussion) unlikely to play this week, and with Joe McKnight still recovering from a high-ankle sprain, the Jets are in the market for a running back. On Tuesday, they worked out at least two veteran free agents, Steve Slaton and Kahlil Bell, a league source confirmed.

Slaton is somewhat familiar with Tony Sparano's offense because he spent time with the Dolphins last season. He has 1,896 career rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. He worked out in September for the Bears.

Bell was re-signed by the Bears in September when starting RB Matt Forte went down with an injury. He was waived last month. He has 589 career rushing yards.
