The Jets' defensive playcalling last season was a collaborative effort between Rex Ryan and Mike Pettine. Pettine is gone, replaced by longtime secondary coach Dennis Thurman. So the new playcaller is ... yet to be determined.
"Rex and I really haven't talked about it," the new defensive coordinator said in an interview with team media. "I have no problem if he wants to call it. If we do it like we've done in the past, my input will always be there."
Thurman, commenting for the first time since being promoted, didn't have much to say about the Darrelle Revis situation, repeating the company line: "The most important thing we're worried about with Darrelle is getting him back healthy."
One of the biggest personnel issues is the safety position, with LaRon Landry and Yeremiah Bell both headed to unrestricted free agency. The Jets used late-round picks last year on Josh Bush and Antonio Allen, but Thurman indicated they're not ready for frontline roles.
"I don't think they'll improve enough to start," he said, "but they have to improve."
New offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, also interviewed, didn't reveal much.
"I love challenges, and I think this is a great challenge," he said, explaining what attracted him to the Jets.
An understatement, for sure.

I'm wondering if Jay Z makes it to Cortland this summer for training camp. I'm sure he'd be a big hit at Doug's Fish Fry. #Jets

Early thought on #Jets QB comp: Ugh. Sanchez 6-for-11, 3 INTs, 1 sack. (1 INT may have been a sack.) Geno Smith 3-for-10, 1 INT, 1 sack
