As expected, the Cards released QB Kevin Kolb on Friday, intensifying the speculation that he could land with the Jets.

The Jets' interest in Kolb, who played for offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg in Philadelphia, surfaced a couple of weeks ago when it became apparent that his days in Arizona were numbered. On Thursday morning, a league source told ESPNNewYork.com the Jets would consider Kolb at the right price. As you know, the Jets have become ... um, rather thrifty under new GM John Idzik.

They already have Mark Sanchez, David Garrard and Greg McElroy on the roster (and, for the time being, Tim Tebow), but Idzik is looking to add another arm for the open competition.

Kolb's health could be a question. He missed the second half of the season with three detached ribs and a sprained shoulder joint.
