Anthony Gruppuso/US PresswireKnicks' J.R. Smith is averaging 16.7 points per game coming off the bench this season.
The Knicks are asking the NBA to review J.R. Smith's flagrant foul from Friday night, when the shooting guard went up to challenge Tony Allen's layup attempt.
"We’re going to send it in (to the league office)," Woodson said before the Pacers game. "I didn’t think there was much there."
Here are some other noteworthy items from Sunday:
RUN, COACH, RUN: Entering the game, the Knicks were tops in the league in fewest turnovers per game (10.6). Today, they only had eight -- and that means the team's coaches are going be running in practice. Tyson Chandler explained after the game.
"We get a nice treat whenever we're under a certain number of turnovers," he said. "We get to watch our coaches run. It's pretty hysterical. We enjoy getting under that mark and watching them try to run up and down the court.
"Our mark is under 13 turnovers. They have to run a lap for each one and I think they owe us like 12 or 13 from this road trip. We'll see how many of them have to go under the knife after this. I don't know if a couple of those guys with knee replacements are going to be able to handle it."
Carmelo Anthony also chimed in.
"We like that," he said postgame. "We like to see our coaches run in practice. I know our coaches want us to be the best-shape team in the NBA, so they’re going to be the best coaching staff in shape in the NBA."
YOU'RE NOT KIDDING!: In the first quarter, Pacers shooting guard Lance Stephenson's teeth caught the right side of Jason Kidd's head while the Knicks guard was attempting a 3-pointer. To control the bleeding, Knicks head athletic trainer Roger Hinds placed a headband over the wound. Kidd continued to wear it after receiving seven stitches, but he and Carmelo Anthony weren't digging the new look after the game.
Kidd: "That’s not my style. I’ll leave that to the guys who like the headband."
Anthony: "That's not a good look. We're not going to allow that."
THE ROOKIE HAZING CONTINUES ...: This time, Chris Copeland was forced to wear a pink Barbie backpack to the game. He said, fortunately, that he hasn't had to do anything crazy -- mostly dress-up things.
James White, whose locker is two away from Copeland, reminisced about the first time he was hazed in 2006, as a training camp invite with the Pacers. He said he had to sing a song from the movie "Coming to America" during an open practice in front of all the fans.
JUST FOR KICKS: Anthony said before the game that he's currently wearing his Melo M8 Advance sneakers. He said he'll be debuting his new M9s on Christmas Day against the Lakers.
