The Knicks are out to win three straight on Friday in Washington, D.C.

Here are a few notes from the first half:

KIDD OFF BENCH: In his debut off the bench, Jason Kidd was fairly effective. He had three assists in 14 minutes. He helped find open shots for the second unit.

J.R. Smith seemed to benefit most. He had 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting. Smith also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

Starting in place of Kidd, James White went scoreless in five minutes.

SHUMP GETTING IT BACK? Iman Shumpert is still having a tough time on the offensive end, but his defense seems to be on the way back.

Shumpert, known as an excellent on-the-ball defender, has been more aggressive in recent games. That continued in the first half on Friday. He did not have any steals but came up with a few tipped balls and bothered Washington's wings.

Bradley Beal led the Wizards with 22 points and five rebounds.

AGGRESSIVE ANTHONY: He hasn't shot well, but Carmelo Anthony has still found ways to impact the game by getting to the free-throw line.

He took a game-high eight trips to the line in the first half in D.C. Anthony is coming off games in which he's shot 18 and 11 free throws, respectively. At a time when he's struggling with his 3-point shot, Anthony has been more aggressive with his drives to the rim.

He went 4-for-12 from the field and scored 15 points in the first half.
