Very interesting story in the Chicago Sun-Times about Julius Peppers. The newspaper sent a reporter to Peppers’ hometown of Bailey, N.C., and got some good details about how the defensive end grew up.
There also is some good stuff about Pepper’s legendary shyness. But the most interesting revelation of all came from Peppers when he was asked about his reputation for not always playing with a high motor and not consistently producing.
Peppers
Wow, that’s a very strong statement from a guy who never said much of anything during his time with the Carolina Panthers. At his introductory news conference in Chicago, Peppers said he could have been more vocal and demonstrative with the Panthers but “chose not to.’’
Peppers also went on to say he believed he could be more of a leader and more out front publicly and he believed that was the expectation in Chicago. Maybe this is the first sign that Peppers is really opening up.
But, a little advice to the Chicago media: Hop on this train as fast as you can. Maybe Peppers really has turned over a new leaf and maybe he'll be more outgoing in Chicago. But maybe this is just temporary and part of a public relations plan to get him off to a good start in Chicago. This may not last. Enjoy it while you can.

‘‘I feel the same way, actually,’’ Peppers said. ‘‘I feel I haven’t given everything I have to give yet, and I can do more. I’ve had a good career so far, but there’s still more I could give.’’
