NEW ORLEANS -- So I'm all set up here in the auxiliary press box at the Superdome, where I'll be helping out with ESPN.com's coverage of Super Bowl XLVII. But it's still three and a half hours until kickoff, so I figured why not do some NFC East blogging?

Griffin
In case you didn't see Adam Schefter's report this morning on Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, I found it interesting. Adam reports that the NFL has been asking the Redskins about Griffin's recovery timetable following his reconstructive knee surgery in order to help them figure out when to schedule the Redskins for prime-time games. (I guess they're not as excited about putting Kirk Cousins in prime time.) But according to Adam's report, there's nothing the Redskins can tell anyone yet other than that Griffin is likely to start training camp on the physically unable to perform list "giving him more time to heal and the team an extra roster spot to bring another quarterback to training camp."

Nothing surprising or alarming about the idea of Griffin opening camp on PUP. It will not delay his recovery or affect his availability for Week 1. This story just serves to further underline the fact that no one knows what to expect at this point from Griffin as he recovers from his surgery. He could be ready for Week 1, as he promised he would be when he talked to reporters Saturday night at the NFL Honors ceremony. He could have to miss the first game or month or even more time. We don't and can't know what awaits him in his recovery process or what setbacks he might endure. It's the second time he's had his right knee rebuilt, and surely he and the Redskins have learned hard lessons already that should keep them from rushing him back.

I think it would be impressive, given what he had done, if Griffin plays for the Redskins in Week 1. But it wouldn't be the first time he's impressed us. At this point, it's still way too early to know.
