Squeaking out even one post on Saturday's "activity" during this three-day negotiating window ranks as one of the greatest achievements in the history of this blog. I'll add to this post should anything else arise this evening -- unless, of course, the news is so significant it merits a separate post.

In quick-hitting fashion:

Item: Chicago Bears linebacker Nick Roach, who will be an unrestricted free agent, has received a fair amount of interest.
Comment: Teams are no doubt attracted by Roach's experience playing both on the strong side and in the middle. At the moment, the Bears have only one of their three starting linebackers under contract for 2013: Lance Briggs. Roach and Brian Urlacher are both unsigned beyond Tuesday.

Item: The Bears have told defensive tackle Nate Collins, a restricted free agent, that they won't tender him a contract offer.
Comment: Collins played in nine games last season as a backup but would have cost at least $1.32 million to retain as an RFA. It's possible the Bears could bring him back at a lower salary later in the offseason.

Item: A Detroit Lions player told Mike Freeman of CBSSports.com that teammates are recruiting running back Reggie Bush, who will be a UFA.
Comment: Bush and the Lions have long seemed a logical connection. We'll see if the money stays within the Lions' range, which is limited by their tight salary-cap situation.

Item: Joe Browne, the NFL's Senior Advisor to the Commissioner, provided some further background on the intent of this three-day period via Twitter.
Comment: Most importantly, Browne tweeted: "One purpose of 3-day period is to have exchange of info re $$$ to see if both sides are in same zip code. Nothing binding." In other words, the NFL wants the negotiating sides to be past the point of pleasantries when the market officially opens Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET. That would conceivably make for an even more hectic flurry of initial signings.
