Yeah, so, ESPN.com's fantasy football draft kit came out this week, and regular readers of this blog know we're going to do a lot with this over the coming weeks. It's a slow time of year and we love fantasy football here, so the fantasy content will be flowing.
Let's kick it off with a little something about one of the NFC East blog's favorite players, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant. If you had Bryant on your fantasy team in the second half of last season, you likely made a playoff run. If you had him on your team in Week 16 and were playing in your league's championship game, you likely won your league's championship. Those of you who fall into these categories will not be surprised at this rankings list, which ranks Bryant as the No. 16 overall player in fantasy football heading into 2013, and the No. 3 wide receiver, behind only Detroit's Calvin Johnson and Cincinnati's A.J. Green:
He ran exactly where he was supposed to run. He caught the ball. He streaked past defenders. In short, he was unstoppable. We understand if you have anxiety about making Bryant a top-five wideout, because he spent his first 2.5 NFL seasons teasing fantasy owners. But the tape doesn't lie. Bryant was so good in the second half last year, we believe he's here to stay.
I believe it as well, and would have absolutely no issue with a fantasy football team this year on which Bryant was my No. 1 wide receiver. He doesn't even turn 25 until November, which means there's a chance he's getting better. He plays in a passing offense with a quarterback who loves throwing to him, and he's a physical mismatch against any defensive back this side of Seattle. If he's healthy he will produce big numbers. The only thing I don't like about this is that he's not a secret any more, and he won't be as easy to acquire as he was the past couple of years.
