Drafted second overall by the San Jose Sharks in 1997, Patrick Marleau has played all 14 years of his career in San Jose -- and helped the team to the postseason in all but one of those seasons.

The 33-year-old and three-time NHL All-Star is the Sharks' all-time leader in goals (387) and points (830) and was the third-quickest player (31 years, 124 days) to 1,000 career NHL games.

With hockey finally back, we put the SJS center through the Mag Minute ropes.

What is the biggest misconception about you?

That I'm quiet. I might be at the start, but as soon as I get to know you I open up and talk.

Who would you say is the most media-savvy athlete?

My teammate Joe Thornton. He does a really good job with the media. He's very personable.

With which professional athlete would you never want to trade places?

I don't know. My first thought is superstar athletes, the guys who are always hounded by the media. But they are hounded for a reason -- because they're good. I don't think I wouldn't want to trade places with those guys because being really good at what they do is the reason they get that attention.

What is one thing you always have with you?

My phone.

What is your most irrational fear?

I try not to have fears.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Chocolate. Of any kind, but especially milk chocolate.

What do you like best about your job?

I love hockey. I get to do what I love every day.

What do you hate about it?

Being away from my family.

If you had to pick one key to your success, what would it be?

Speed. Skating fast has always been an asset. But another key would be the support of my family growing up. All the sacrifices that were made to get me where I am.
