TAMPA, Fla. -- Guard Davin Joseph said Thursday that he had a staph infection over the summer, but insisted it was not MRSA, which has plagued the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Since the preseason, kicker Lawrence Tynes, guard Carl Nicks and cornerback Johnthan Banks have been diagnosed with MRSA. A local radio station reported that Joseph also had had the infection that is resistant to some antibiotics.

“I do not have MRSA,’’ Joseph said. “I have never had MRSA.’’

Joseph missed all of last season with a knee injury and was brought along slowly in the preseason. Joseph, 29, has started all seven games this season.

In other injury news, coach Greg Schiano said the chance of running back Doug Martin (shoulder) being ready to play against Seattle on Sunday is “getting slimmer as time goes by.’’ Martin hasn’t practiced this week.

Safety Dashon Goldson (knee) was limited in Thursday’s practice.
