Maryalyce Jeremiah at 9:14pm ET
I am here and ready to go! Chong from [209.213.34.138], at 9:14pm ET How did Hawaii, with a 20+ win season, not get in? They finished 2nd in the WAC regular season, and 2nd in the Tournament? Yet they get snubbed again. How can you justify that? And 3 of their losses came at the hands of conference champion TCU. Maryalyce Jeremiah at 9:16pm ET
They weren't snubbed. They were strongly considered. They're RPI was 55 and conf. RPI was 12. Sometimes a team is not in more because of the teams that are in that because of what they may not have done to get in. Josh Hicks from [63.180.95.31], at 9:16pm ET Why did FSU get a high seed? I am a big FSU fan and I was wondering because I had heard that we would be a 9 seed. I am very excited and beware of FSU!! Maryalyce Jeremiah at 9:17pm ET
FSU is where we believe they belong, and since you're a fan we are glad you are happy! john m from [24.4.194.84], at 9:17pm ET Whats the deal with putting UCONN in a brutal bracket every year? Also, why are all the male coaches lumped together in the East? There are maybe 5 Final Four teams in this East bracket. Every Cable Network is all over this, what are you guys looking at? Maryalyce Jeremiah at 9:19pm ET
Every bracket is brutal in this championship. The committee did not feel that thier bracket was that much more brutal than the other. Furthermore, they are not always placed in a brutal bracket. If the bracket is brutal, we believe they are strong enough to win it. Steve McIntyre from [152.163.197.57], at 9:20pm ET Why did Southwest Missouri State, ranked 16th in both polls and with victories over #2 seed Oklahoma and #4 seed Iowa, end up as a five seed? They had a very impressive series of 5 games in which they crushed their conference opponents. Don't last games count more? Maryalyce Jeremiah at 9:20pm ET
How a team is ranked in the media is not taken into account in the seedings. hoopster from [130.184.141.78], at 9:21pm ET What was the main reason that Louisiana Tech slipped to a three seed? Maryalyce Jeremiah at 9:22pm ET
La Tech is right where they belong. This is a whole new year and they are right where they belong. Z from [24.183.66.201], at 9:23pm ET Since obviously there is some curiousity as to how teams achieve or dont achieve a ranking, what is the process. Why are some teams with better records and victories against quality opponents given a lower seed? Maryalyce Jeremiah at 9:24pm ET
We use the same criteria for seeding as we do for selection. Such as win-loss record, team RPI, Conf. RPI, how they finished in their conf. tournametn, how they finished in their conf. Regular season, head-to-head results. These are not all but some of the criteria used. Casey from [156.56.116.171], at 9:24pm ET Why aren't there 65 teams in the women's draw too? Can you explain that? I think my team was team #65......Indiana. Maryalyce Jeremiah at 9:25pm ET
That is just a great question. That play-in game is a topic of discussion in the women's championship but has not yet been changed. Jared from [24.4.254.144], at 9:26pm ET how does the Pac 10's lack of a tournament affect choosing which teams are in? (I know this won't matter next year) Maryalyce Jeremiah at 9:27pm ET
Not at all. Their conference regular season is what we use because that is what they do. They will have one next year. draz from [204.251.219.89], at 9:27pm ET How come Vilanova did not get in? Maryalyce Jeremiah at 9:27pm ET
They are in! 5th seed in the East!! That should make you happy! Craig from [152.163.197.76], at 9:28pm ET It looks like the top 16 teams were straight from the rpi rankings. Is that the major factor? Maryalyce Jeremiah at 9:29pm ET
No, it's not more of a major factor but it includes a lot of the factors, i.e. win-loss, strength of schedule, opponents schedule, etc. It didn't come straight from the RPI but it might lend some credibiility to the RPI. chocfire from [12.23.54.194], at 9:29pm ET Do you believe that the situation of Iowa's home gymnasium not being avalable gives Utah and unfair advantage over their opponent since the game should be on a neutral floor? Maryalyce Jeremiah at 9:31pm ET
I think they would rather be a fourth seed. It didn't even factor into things at all. THey deserved a fourth seed and that is what they got. We're sorry they can't host but that is the way it is. george from [205.188.200.38], at 9:33pm ET Would OU have been the #1 seed in the West had they won the Big 12 Tournament, in your opinion? Maryalyce Jeremiah at 9:33pm ET
No. Jenn from [63.215.224.213], at 9:34pm ET What is the reason Notre Dame got at the overall #2 seed before UConn? Injuries? Maryalyce Jeremiah at 9:35pm ET
ND tied with UConn but got the nod because they beat UCOnn in the regular season. It was VERY close but some of the things we looked at was ND won their conference, lost to UConn by 2 but then beat them early on by 16. While it was very close, the Committee had to find the criteria that would seperate them. D. Grim from [204.214.229.124], at 9:36pm ET Have you ever had a harder time with the selection process? Maryalyce Jeremiah at 9:43pm ET
I can really only speak for this Committee but I would say this has been extremely difficult given the parity in the game this year. I want to thank everyone for the questions. We were excited about getting the opportunity to do this. This Committee was very objective, watching hundreds of hours of games and video. This was one of the hardest seedings in quite a while. This should be a great tournament, be sure and watch the 8 vs. 9 and 7 vs. 10 games, they will be great ones. Thanks everybody. | ||||||
