Year -- The 1990 season was the first full season the Michigan hockey team wore winged helmets. Michigan hockey coach Red Berenson decided to adopt the winged helmet during the 1989 playoff season, but brought it back in 1990. The team still sports the wings.[+] Enlarge

Year/Score to beat -- On April 4, 1989, the Michigan basketball team won its first, and only, national championship by defeating Seton Hall in overtime, 90-89. The team was led by Glen Rice, who scored 184 points during the NCAA tournament.88
Percent -- The best career free-throw percentage in Michigan men's basketball history, by Ron Kramer from 1954-57.87
Jersey number -- Ron Kramer wore the now-retired No. 87 football jersey. He was a two-time All-American and a three-time All-Big Ten selection. Between the 1954 and 1956 seasons he played at running back, quarterback, wide receiver, offensive line and defensive end. He also lettered for three years in basketball and track, making him one of few athletes to letter nine times during his or her Michigan career.86
Steals -- The most steals ever recorded in a single basketball season by a Michigan men's player, by Gary Grant during the1986-87 season. That's an average of nearly three per game.85
Goals -- The most goals scored by a Michigan hockey player over a career, by Kevin Porter from 2004-08.84
