Danica Patrick to appear in two ads

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Danica Patrick's Super Bowl run will continue.

GoDaddy.com founder Bob Parsons announced Thursday that Patrick will appear in both of the company's Super Bowl advertising spots in the broadcast of the Feb. 3 game in New Orleans.

Parsons also said GoDaddy's relationship with Patrick in NASCAR will continue for at least the foreseeable future as she begins her first full season in the Sprint Cup Series in 2013.

Though loath to reveal details, Danica Patrick has a workout regime that has transformed her to an athlete with, her trainer says, "remarkable'' strength, writes Brant James. Story

"We have been partners with Danica for well over nine years now," Parsons said at a news conference at company headquarters. "GoDaddy and Danica, we're a team.

"I would think it would be very difficult to figure out who is benefiting more from our relationship. I would think GoDaddy has a little more than Danica has, but in any case it has been a true partnership. I don't see it ending anytime soon."

It also was announced that GoDaddy would match up to $1 million in donations to the Semper Fi Fund, which benefits those injured while serving in the armed forces.

The Super Bowl announcement ended speculation that Patrick, whose 10 appearances in Super Bowl commercials are more than any celebrity, would see her streak end after the company hired an outside agency -- Deutsch Inc. of New York -- to produce its two 30-second spots.

It's the first time since GoDaddy began airing Super Bowl commercials in 2005 that it hasn't produced the ads itself.

"I definitely thought there was a chance I wouldn't be in them," Patrick said. "It was a pleasant surprise that he announced I would be in both of them. I was thinking one. To hear two, it did surprise me a little bit."

Patrick, who will carry the Semper Fi Fund logo on the hood of her car in Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway, also was glad to hear Parsons' commitment to her in NASCAR.

"I've been fortunate in my career that there's not been necessarily things I have to do to maintain," Patrick said of sponsorships. "It's nice to not have that added pressure. I feel like one of the luckiest drivers to have that."

Parsons said he never doubted that Patrick would remain in the Super Bowl commercials.

"She's our spokesperson," he said. "Has been in our successful Super Bowl advertising for the past eight years. So it only follows that if something works eight years in a row that it would work, maybe the ninth year."

Parsons jokingly said Tony Stewart, Patrick's Cup owner who donated $50,000 to the Semper Fi Fund during the news conferences, might be used in one of the commercials wearing high heels, similar to the 4-inch orange stilettos Patrick was wearing.

"Well, you know, high heels would be part of it," Parsons said with a laugh. "We're trying to figure out what color wig we would want to put on him."

Interjected Patrick: "I'm pushing for blond."

Sunday's race will be Patrick's final of 10 Sprint Cup races. She finished 24th and on the lead lap last weekend at Texas in her debut with new crew chief Tony Gibson. She has an average finish of 29.6.

Patrick also is competing in the Nationwide Series race Saturday. She is 10th in points with an average finish of 19.3, but has six straight finishes of 16th or better.
