Living my dream at full speed

Hi, everyone!

This past month has been a dream come true! I've always wanted to be a professional basketball player and I'm so thankful the WNBA has let me become one. Last month it all started with me being drafted by Tulsa as the No. 2 overall pick.

After I was drafted I went back to Waco to finish up school and pack up to head to Tulsa. When I got to Tulsa, the Shock held a news conference for me alongside Coach [Fred] Williams and our president, Steve Swetoha.

This was just before my news conference, when they showed me my official Sims No. 0 jersey. I was so excited I had to get a picture with it first thing!

My first day in camp was awesome -- hard, but awesome. It was the first chance I got to work with my amazing teammates and coaches.

Following the first couple of days of camp, I had to go back to Waco to finish one class. Unfortunately, I had to miss our first preseason game in Tulsa, but the team killed it without me, earning a 82-59 victory over the Silver Stars. I was able to return and play my first preseason game as a member of the Shock on May 6 in San Antonio. We got another victory, making us 2-0 in the preseason.

Our next big event was media day. We spent a couple of hours getting our hair and makeup done, talking to the media and having a blast taking pictures with the team.

On May 10, the team and the organization went to the Girls on the Run 5K for WNBA Cares Week. Girls on the Run is a program that empowers young girls to make good life choices and educates them about healthy and fit lifestyles. At the end of the program they all run a 5K. We got to meet several of the girls before they ran and also helped teach them Zumba! Courtney Paris, Angel Goodrich, Vicki Baugh and I helped the girls through the warm-ups by doing Zumba. It was a great event to be a part of and I'm so proud our organization supports it.

I was able to play my first home preseason game on May 12 against the Chinese national team. We earned the victory to make our final record 3-0 in the preseason.

Now we're about to start the season in San Antonio and I cannot wait. Ever since I got drafted, all I've wanted to do is just play. My team and I want to make the city of Tulsa and our fans proud. We want to win for the fans, our organization, our owners, ourselves and our coaches. We have had a great camp and a great preseason. Now we're taking the next step to translate that to the season. I'm excited for it all to start! #RockWithTheShock

Until next time,

O
