W Wants To Know: Sam Briggs

espnW's Cary Chow catches up with the fittest woman on earth, Sam Briggs, at a local CrossFit box.

Sam Briggs can walk across a room on her hands, deadlift nearly 400 pounds and do dozens of pull-ups without breaking a sweat. The 2013 CrossFit Games champion works night and day -- and that’s just at her job as a firefighter. The 31-year-old from Manchester, England, does have some things in common with the rest of us, though -- a love of chocolate chip cookies, for one. She shares some of her secrets in this edition of “W Wants To Know.” You can also watch the 2013 Reebok CrossFit Games on Wednesday night on ESPN and WatchESPN at 8 p.m. ET.)

What’s the one thing you need to consider your day complete? My one daily ritual is really at breakfast. I eat a banana while cooking my scrambled eggs and peanut butter. It’s a recipe I invented myself. I plop the peanut butter in just as the egg is almost finished to keep it from getting all over the pan. It’s a gooey mess, but it’s good.

What’s one thing you know you’ll never do? Hopefully kill somebody. I really hope that I’ll never do that. I’m not talking about combat sports -- I have done a little kickboxing and boxing -- but I mean in everyday life. I hope that I’m not randomly driving the car or something like that and accidently kill somebody.

What song best describes your life? Lindsey Valenzuela, who finished second at the 2013 CrossFit Games, messaged me when Katy Perry’s new song “Roar” came out and said, “This is our life.” She was right. It’s about becoming a champion. And it’s a nice song, a happy song, a positive song and it gets you singing.

What’s one thing you really want to do in your life? I like traveling, which CrossFit has allowed me to do. I like to go out and go hiking, mountain biking and exploring. I’m going to Australia for the first time in two weeks. ... Some day I’d really like to go and explore the Amazon, and do a big trek.

What is your biggest weakness? Chocolate chip cookies, especially when they’re freshly baked. I allow myself to indulge sometimes, normally on a weekend after a big training session. My favorite is white chocolate and raspberries. It’s absolutely delicious. I don’t crave a lot of chocolate, but if I’m going to have something bad, that’s what I’ll have.
