Candace Parker's Uplifting Night
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Candace Parker will become the sixth Tennessee Lady Vol to have her jersey retired into the rafters at Thompson-Boling Arena prior to tonight's SEC showdown between No. 5 Tennessee and No. 16 LSU. During her days in Knoxville, the reigning WNBA MVP led the Lady Vols to back-to-back national championships in 2007 and 2008 and was named the John Wooden Player of the Year (2007, 2008), the Associated Press Player of the Year (2008) and the Naismith Player of the Year (2008), among several other honors. Her No. 3 jersey will join those worn by Chamique Holdsclaw, Tamika Catchings, Bridgette Gordon, Daedra Charles and current head coach Holly Warlick. Head coach emeritus Pat Summitt received an honorary banner in January of last year during a ceremony in which Parker and several other former players attended.
