MELBOURNE, Australia -- I'm here in Australia, and I love this country. I don't like that it is so hot, but I do love Australia. Everyone is so nice, and the tournament is amazing. It's run so smoothly and everyone is so accommodating, which makes it really nice and fun to be here. In Hobart, we went to the Moscow Circus. I want to go to the zoo here in Melbourne, but I haven't been yet.
I came into last year's Aussie Open ranked about 90th in the world, having lost in first-round qualifying at Brisbane and Hobart, so there has definitely been an improvement (I am ranked 29th heading into this year). I'm not feeling any extra pressure at all. My goals are just to play my best and not get heat stroke!
I used to eat the same dinner every night of a tournament, and I'm trying to get away from that now. But I am still pretty consistent with what I eat. On Sunday night, I went to this Italian place, so I think that's probably where we'll be for the rest of the tournament.
A couple of days ago, I was named an ambassador for USANA Health Sciences, Inc., which I'm really excited about. Yesterday, I picked up all my products and went to the dietician. I actually took a really cool picture, which is on my twitter feed (@SloaneTweets), so you should check it out. I use all USANA products because the WTA is sponsored by them, and I've been using them for about two years now.
Now I'm focused on Tuesday, when I'll play Simona Halep in the first round. We played last week in the second round at Hobart, so it will be another battle. This is a Grand Slam, so obviously everything is a little more difficult, but it will still be fun. It will probably be extremely hot, but it'll be a good time.
