Snow big deal for Sochi Olympics

Let the -- countdown to the -- Games begin. A year from today, Sochi will kick off the 22nd edition of the Winter Olympics, hosting 98 medal events in 15 winter sports. There’s a wide temperature range across the vast Russia landscape, and some officials are concerned about the mild Sochi climate. Organizers, however, are determined to ensure that there will be enough snow on the slopes come next February. They have gone as far as hoarding snow this winter – that they’ll keep over the summer -- in underground storage facilities, up to 150,000 cubic meters of it. The Games will go on -- even if Mother Nature comes out to play.
