Pac-10 powerhouses hit the hardwood
Women's college basketball: Two of the country's top 10 teams meet tonight as No. 8 UCLA visits fourth-ranked Stanford. Stanford takes an eight-game winning streak into the contest, but the Cardinal face a stingy Bruins defense that leads the Pac-10 conference, holding opponents to 53.3 points per game. The Bruins have won their last 13 Pac-10 regular-season games in a row, but they've lost their last eight meetings with the Cardinal. Both teams are unbeaten in conference play heading into tonight's game.
Men's college basketball: Two ranked Pac-10 teams meet on the men's side, too, as No. 20 Washington hosts 25th-ranked Arizona. The Wildcats have lost three in a row against the Huskies in Seattle.
NBA: The Clippers look to win a fourth straight game tonight, but they'll have their hands full with a Portland team that's won their last four meetings. The Blazers, who ride their own three-game win streak into the contest, have flourished behind LaMarcus Aldridge, averaging 27 points and 10.2 boards in the month of January. The Bulls saw their eight-home win streak snapped by the Bobcats on Tuesday night. They'll look to start a new streak tonight when they host the Mavs at the United Center. Dallas snapped a six-game skid with a win over the Lakers Wednesday night, but they've lost four straight on the road. The only other NBA game tonight pits the Bobcats against the 76ers. Charlotte sits just a half a game back of the Sixers and the Pacers for the final two playoff spots in the East.
Australian Open: Both Roger Federer and Venus Williams just squeaked by their last opponents, so their third-round matches should be interesting tonight. Federer faces Xavier Malisse, while Williams, who battled through a hip injury during her last match, will try to get past Andrea Petkovic. Andy Roddick will be in action against Robin Haase, while Maria Sharapova faves German Julia Goerges.
