The media director for Syracuse University's athletic department is no longer employed by the school and is being investigated by police, according to a report by The Post-Standard of Syracuse.

Roger Springfield does not work for the university any more, Kevin Quinn, senior vice president for public affairs at the university, told The Associated Press on Wednesday night. Quinn did not provide additional information.

The Post-Standard reported hours earlier that Springfield is under investigation by Syracuse police and the district attorney's office. No one answered at the door of Springfield's residence Wednesday night.

Neighbors told the newspaper that several police cars were outside Springfield's home Dec. 12.

Attorney James McGraw has been hired to represent Springfield. He did not return a phone call from The Associated Press. McGraw told The Post-Standard he did not know what prompted the investigation.

District Attorney William Fitzpatrick told the paper the investigation began after university officials contacted law enforcement officials recently. He said he expected it to last another two to three weeks.

Springfield was a sportscaster for 11 years at a Syracuse television station before he was hired as director of media properties and productions at the university. His LinkedIn profile says he was employed by the university since 2003.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
