Maryland forward Patrick Mullins and North Carolina midfielder Crystal Dunn were announced as the winners of the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, presented to the best male and female soccer players in NCAA Division I.
The winners were decided by a vote of coaches, along with a fan vote that counted as much as one coach's vote.
Mullins, a New Orleans native, led Maryland with 17 goals -- including seven game winners -- and 10 assists.
He is the second Maryland player to win the Hermann Trophy, after another New Orleans native, Jason Garey, won it in 2005.
Dunn missed the nonconference season while with the U.S. team in the Under-20 World Cup but returned to help North Carolina to a national championship.
"I am thrilled for Crystal because starting in the NCAA Tournament we took her from defense where she had been named a two-time ACC Defensive Player of the Year and put her at attacking center half," UNC coach Anson Dorrance said. "We watched her either score or assist in every NCAA Tournament game, where she was the margin of victory in an unlikely NCAA championship run for us."
Dunn, from Rockville Centre, N.Y., is the fifth different player from UNC to win the award. The Tar Heels women's seven Hermann Trophies are the most by any school.
