Cal recruit Mikayla Cowling looks up to big sis

By espnW

Mikayla Cowling is a 6-foot-1 wing for St. Marys (Stockton, Calif.), the No. 14 prospect in the 2014 class and a Cal commit. Cowling shares some of her secrets in this edition of Meet the Prospects.

Nickname: Bean No. 2. Gabby Green [Cowlings St. Marys teammate and the No. 9 prospect in the 2014 class] and I were both nicknamed string beans our freshman year.

Pick a number: I wear No. 3 because my sister [Loyola Marymount senior star] Alex Cowling wears 3, so I basically copied her.

Other than basketball, what is your favorite hobby? I love to sleep and relax.

If you could go one-on-one with anyone, who would it be? I would go one-on-one with my sister because, to me, she is the best player in the world. (Alex Cowling is Loyola Marymount's all-time leader in both scoring and rebounding.)

If you had to compare your game to a current college or pro player, who would it be? Oklahoma City forward Kevin Durant because my length and athleticism match his.

Who is your role model? My sister. She is a very hard-working person and she has an amazing personality.

What is the most important thing basketball fans should know about you? I am very shy.

What is your favorite basketball moment so far? Each time I get a block in a game is my favorite moment.

The King and I: LeBron James wishes he could & smile as well as I can.
