Jessica Shepard adds career highlight

By espnW

Jessica Shepard is a 6-foot-4 forward at Lincoln Southeast (Neb.), the No. 23 prospect in the 2015 class and a Nebraska recruit. Shepard scored 26 points and grabbed 19 rebounds in the state championship game to lead Southeast to its 10th state title earlier this month. She shares some of her secrets in this edition of Meet The Prospects.

Nickname: Jess.

Pick a number: I wear jersey No. 32 because most people want to wear 23, and 32 is just the opposite.

Seeing red: I chose the University of Nebraska because of Coach [Connie] Yori and the great coaching staff and the great facilities. They are in the Big Ten and they are very competitive nationally.

Other than basketball, what is your favorite hobby? Wakeboarding.

If you could go one-on-one with anyone, who would it be? Kevin Durant because he's a great player.

If you had to compare your game to a current college or pro player, who would it be? LeBron James and Jordan Hooper of Nebraska. Our games are versatile and very similar. At the end of the game, we all want the ball in our hands. We are very competitive.

Who is your role model? My mom and dad, because they are great people and good role models.

What is the most important thing basketball fans should know about you? I love basketball and giving back to the sport. I love supporting and helping the younger players in the [AAU] Cornhusker Shooting Stars basketball program.

What is your favorite basketball moment so far? Winning the Nebraska state championship this year with my teammates from Lincoln Southeast. And beating the Midwest Elite with my Cornhusker Shooting Stars Bison team last fall in Chicago.

The King and I: LeBron James wishes he could reverse spin and finish as well as I can.
