Haley Smith packing passion for Colorado

By espnW

Haley Smith is a 6-foot-1 senior wing at Skyline (Sammamish, Wash.), a four-star prospect and a Colorado commit. She shares some of her secrets in this edition of Meet The Prospects.

Nickname: Hales

Pick a number: I wear jersey No. 22 because, honestly, when I was a freshman it was the only number that was left because all of the older kids got first dibs on jerseys. But I have come to love it and will keep 22 as my number.

Rockies Road: I am going to play at the University of Colorado because it is such a welcoming place and I really feel at home there. It is also not too far from home and is in the Pac-12, so I will be able to play familiar teams and in front of my family.

Other than basketball, what is your favorite hobby? My favorite hobby is probably reading. I love books and go through them very quickly.

If you could go one-on-one with anyone, who would it be? I would definitely go one-on-one with Candace Parker, just so I can learn from her and see how people play at the highest level.

If you had to compare your game to a current college or pro player, who would it be? I would compare myself to Parker because I think I have the same versatility. In college, she was listed at every position (F, G and C), and I believe that I also have the ability to do whatever is needed of me.

Who is your role model? One of my role models is my dad because he has accomplished so much in his life. He didnt start out with a whole lot but was still able to make a name for himself, something I think is very special.

What is the most important thing basketball fans should know about you? I try not to show too much emotion on the court and attempt to keep myself in check, but am still extremely passionate about the game and will do whatever it takes to win.

What is your favorite basketball moment so far? My favorite basketball moment so far was when my high school team won the regional game that qualified us for the state tournament. It was our goal to make it to state, so it was amazing to say that we made it.

The King and I: LeBron James wishes he could & pull up and shoot as well as I can.
