Tim Duncan: I'm a Spur for life

Tim Duncan has no interest in testing the free-agent market. While Duncan is set to become a free agent on July 1, the San Antonio Spurs veteran told Yahoo! Sports that he plans to finish his career where it started.

“

Duncan I'm not going anywhere. You can print that wherever you want to. I'm here and I'm a Spur for life.

” -- Tim Duncan

"Though I shouldn't say that; I have to threaten them that I'll leave," Duncan joked. "No ... I'm not going anywhere. You can print that wherever you want to. I'm here and I'm a Spur for life."

Duncan, who was drafted No. 1 overall out of Wake Forest by the Spurs in the 1997 NBA draft, also told Yahoo! Sports that it's possible he'll play another season or two.

Duncan's season continues Tuesday when the Spurs face Oklahoma City in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals. San Antonio leads the best-of-seven series 1-0.

Duncan and the Spurs have enjoyed a resurgent season. After getting bounced in the first round of last year's playoffs as the No. 1 seed, San Antonio returned as the top team in the West and have yet to lose. The Spurs are currently riding a 19-game winning streak that began near the end of the regular season and includes a first round sweep of the Utah Jazz and a second round sweep of the Los Angeles Clippers.

For his part, Duncan has averaged 15.4 points and 9.0 rebounds in the regular season (up from last year's career lows of 13.4 and 8.9) and pushed those averages up to 17.4 and 9.2 in the postseason.

Duncan has anchored a franchise known for both its success (four NBA titles during his tenure) and its stability, bridging the gap from the David Robinson era that ran into the early 2000s to a team that's now led largely by Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili.
