Sarah Hendrickson wins ski jump

HINTERZARTEN, Germany -- Defending overall World Cup champion Sarah Hendrickson of the United States edged Sawra Takanashi of Japan in a ski jump event on Saturday.

Hendrickson rallied for her second victory of the season. She was 0.2 points behind Coline Mattel of France in the first heat, then produced the longest jump of the second series by soaring 98.5 meters to win with 243.6 points.

Takanashi had the longest jump of the day at 99 meters in the first round and moved up one place to second with her second jump of 98 meters to collect 242.4 points. Mattel dropped to third at 240.4.

Takanashi remains in the lead overall, 139 points ahead of Hendrickson.

In the men's competition in Zakopane, Poland, Anders Jacobsen of Norway won the event. Overall leader Gregor Schlierenzauer of Austria was eighth on his return from an illness.

Jacobsen had jumps of 128.5 and 131.5 meters for a total of 273.3 points and remained third in the overall standings.

Anders Bardal of Norway was second and Kamil Stoch of Poland was third.
