LONDON -- A man who threw a plastic beer bottle onto the track and shouted insults at Usain Bolt before the men's 100-meter final at the London Olympics has been sentenced to eight weeks of community service.

Ashley Gill-Webb will be electronically monitored and subject to a curfew between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

District Judge William Ashworth said Monday that Gill-Webb tarnished "the spirit of the games" by attempting to throw off Bolt just as the eight finalists were settling in their blocks for the race Aug. 5.

The Jamaican sprinter said afterward he didn't notice the disturbance. He won the gold medal in 9.63 seconds.

Gill-Webb suffers from bipolar affective disorder. He was found guilty by a court of using threatening, abusive or disorderly behavior and convicted of public disorder.
