Sons of IX
Pamela and JaVale McGee
"Regular mothers say, 'Brush your teeth,'" Pamela McGee once told The Associated Press. "I'd say, 'Did you shoot your free throws?'" That's how it goes when a former pro baller is raising a 7-foot, shot-blocking machine. We can't vouch for her son's dental health, but Pam was definitely onto something: Today, JaVale McGee is the WNBA's only NBA son. His mom starred on USC's back-to-back national title teams in 1983 and '84, alongside twin sister Paula and teammate Cheryl Miller. Pam later played during the WNBA's first two seasons, after being drafted second overall in 1997, at age 34. Now her courtside antics catch plenty of attention at JaVale's games. (He finished the season with the Denver Nuggets, after a trade from Washington.) Keeping it on the sidelines is how the prideful mom prefers it these days. "I'll never play him again," Pamela has said. "I've still got my game, and I want to win, too."
