Sneak peek of 'Katie' special
Tennis great Venus Williams and ABC's "Good Morning America" host Robin Roberts joined Katie Couric for a special taping of the "Katie" show on Tuesday in New York.
The topic of the hour: ESPN Films and espnW's documentary series Nine for IX. Roberts, who executive produced the films with Jane Rosenthal, talked about the series' importance and the stories behind it.
Here are a few photos from the show, which will air Thursday at 3 p.m. ET (check your local listings):
Venus Williams, center, was the focal point of the Nine for IX series' first film "Venus VS.," which examines her crucial role in the pay equality fight at Wimbledon.
Whoopi Goldberg, center, talks with Couric and Roberts about her Nine for IX short film "Coach," which profiles Rutgers women's basketball head coach C. Vivian Stringer. The film won best documentary short at this year's Tribeca Film Festival.
Michelle Akers, center, and Julie Foudy (via satelitte) stopped by to discuss their film, "The 99ers," which shows behind-the-scenes footage and insight into the U.S. women's national soccer team that captured the nation at the 1999 Women's World Cup.
Couric's audience was filled with coaches and athletes for Tuesday's taping. Not a bad guest list for sports fans, huh?
"SportsCenter" anchor and award-winning producer Hannah Storm is also involved with Nine for IX. She directed the film "Swoopes," which airs on July 30 on ESPN (8 p.m. ET).
