There's a new No. 1

The Royals, Mets and Cardinals all have legitimate cases to be our No. 1 team for the first time this season. Which team gets the nod?

In MLB, the bigger, the better

In ESPN's Fight for Perfection issue, Howard Bryant writes that today's colossal athletes invite awe. But what is
gained in size will come with a loss of fan connection.

The passion of the Kansas City Royals

I threw this question out there for a Twitter question of the week: Would you want your team to play with the same passion as the Royals?

Angels-Hamilton -- An 'odd' relationship

ESPN's Jayson Stark on SportsCenter: "It's odd and it's uncomfortable. ... It's been odd from Day 1. The most important thing here is to step back from baseball and say let's hope that this is an opportunity for Josh Hamilton to rebuild his life."

Hoping Hamilton story ends well

Scott Van Pelt on SVP & Russillo: "Very little financial risk for Texas. The Angels just wanted out from underneath [the contract]. ... I hope that this story ends well and I just don't know how it does." Listen: Van Pelt's take

Cashman: 'No expectations' for A-Rod

Yankees GM Brian Cashman told ESPN New York 98.7 FM today: "You've never been in a situation like this before at this age, with a year off, with the controversies. What to expect would be the unexpected."

Yanks GM: Fans will cheer A-Rod's 660
MLB

Brian Cashman on ESPN New York 98.7 FM: "I'm sure ... he's going to be cheered just like he gets cheered at home for every home run he hits and hopefully it'll be an impactful one that we can make count and hold up in the win column."

Angels, Hamilton get their wish

Josh Hamilton wanted out of Los Angeles and the Angels wanted him gone. Said Angels GM Jerry Dipoto: "Over the course of the last few weeks, it became clear that Josh wanted to return to Texas. After several discussions with the Rangers, we were able to complete a trade that in the end is the right decision for everyone involved."

Low risk for Texas in Hamilton trade

The Rangers did not give up any prospects or other players in the Josh Hamilton trade. Texas will pay less than $7M of the $80M left on the 3 years remaining on Hamilton's contract. Hamilton, however, will forfeit $6M to offset the move to Texas, where there is no state income tax.

Hamilton back with Texas

Josh Hamilton is returning to the Rangers. The Angels officially announced the long-speculated trade that will send the OF to Texas for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Should the NL add the DH?

Yes, said ESPN's Tim Kurkjian on SportsCenter: "It's time for the DH to go into the National League, and not because two pitchers got hurt. It's ridiculous that we have a different set of of rules for each league."

With Yasiel Puig hitting the DL, the Dodgers will need to find a replacement for the third-year outfielder. Two possibilities: Alex Guerrero and Andre Ethier.

Alex Guerrero has 5 HRs in just 22 at-bats, and ESPN's Eric Karabell expects those at-bats to rise with Yasiel Puig on the DL. Better yet, only 35% of ESPN Fantasy leagues own Guerrero.

On April 27, 1983, Nolan Ryan passed Walter Johnson on the all-time strikeout list with 3,509 strikeouts -- and Ryan was still 10 years from retirement. He would end his career with 5,714 K's, still good for most in MLB history.

No strong DH opinion for Jake Arrieta
MLB

Said the Cubs pitcher, who's 0-for-10 on the year: "It's part of the game, and we have to put work into it. I think a lot of people want to see the DH implemented around the league. I wouldn't care one way or another."
